Lewisia cotyledon – Siskiyou Lewisia


 Lewisia cotyledon (Siskiyou Lewisia) is an evergreen perennial forming a substantial rosette of fleshy, spoon-shaped dark green leaves. In late spring and summer, occasionally later, it is topped with lovely, open sprays of brightly colored, funnel-shaped flowers, up to 1 in. across (2.5 cm). 

Opening in succession, the flowers range from pale pink to deep magenta to vibrant yellow, salmon or orange, with each petal often shading between multiple colors.

How to Grow and Care


Bitterroot will grow to be only 4 inches tall at maturity extending to 8 inches tall with the flowers, with a spread of 6 inches. Its foliage tends to remain low and dense right to the ground. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for approximately 5 years. 

This plant should only be grown in full sunlight. It requires an extremely dry, well-drained growing location, and will usually die in standing water.
