Mammillaria prolifera

Mammillaria prolifera is a small cactus that does not reach more than 8-10 cm in height. It has a globular trunk of intense green color. Like all Mammillaria cacti, they contain conical structures called mammals in their trunk, where the spines are arranged at their apex.

It has two types of spines; 30-40 radial spines (white and very thin) at the apex of each mammoth and central spines (5-15) that project forward (they are much larger and thicker than the radial ones). The central spines can be brown or yellow (they are usually yellow at the base and darker at the apex).

The radial spines are hair-like, white to yellow to brown and up to 0.5 inch (1.3 cm) long. The central spines are white to yellow or reddish, with darker tips and 0.4 inch (0.9 cm) long. The flowers are yellowish-white, cream or pinkish yellow with brownish mid-rib and up to 0.8 inches (2 cm) in diameter.

How to Grow and Care

Mammillaria prolifera is a very resistant and easily grown cactus. We just need to follow some details so that its flowering and fruiting are not affected:

This plant should be grown in very bright places or in full sun preferably.

Must grow at temperatures above 25 degrees and stable throughout the year. It does not support temperatures below 5 degrees or frost.

Water in warm times 2 times per week depending on the humidity of the substrate. Water only when the soil is completely dry. Water once every 15 days in winter. Avoid the waterlogging that can rot your roots... – See more at:HOW TO GROW AND CARE FOR MAMMILLARIA
