Oxalis versicolor '' Candy Cane Sorrel ''

Oxalis versicolor (Candy Cane Sorrel) is a charming bulbous perennial forming a dense mound of fresh green leaves composed of 3 narrow leaflets.

Blooming from midsummer to fall, delicate white flowers, 1 in. across (2.5 cm), adorned with a crimson margin on the petal backs, appear above the handsome, clover-like foliage. Whether the flowers are fully open (which they only are in sunny weather) or in the bud, they are equally ornamental. Candy Cane Sorrel is a festive addition to borders, rock gardens and containers.

How to Grow and Care

Oxalis can be planted both outdoors and indoors, on the ground and in pots. They are plants that look great in rock gardens or along a sunny edge of the garden. They can also be planted in small pots as long as they have good drainage.

You must plant the bulbs of this variety of oxalis once the frost period has passed, since they do not support freezing.
Both the planting depth and the separation between bulbs is approximately 3 cm; to plant them, just make small holes and loosen the soil well (whether you do it in soil or in a pot) and place the bulbs with the tip up, although they grow in any position. Cover with substrate and water.

In larger areas, if you are going to plant many, you can directly dig a wider area, accommodate them all and then cover and water.

About six weeks after planting, foliage should begin to appear and two weeks later, the first flowers could appear in your garden.

Each plant is small, grows approximately 8 cm wide by 20 cm high, which is why they are much better planted in large groups....
